How to get rid of this, also several versions keep poping up. Clicking the "X" gets rid of them but keep randomly reappearing.

Have you had any Norton products, such as Norton Anti-Virus, installed on your computer anytime in the past? That is a "nag" screen to renew a subscription to Norton Anti-Virus after a subscription has expired.

You should be able to get rid of it by uninstalling the Norton Anti-Virus program.

If you need guidance tell us what operating system (Windows 10 Home or Sequoia for examples) you're using.

No, there are different kinds, same thing only different providers. I bit one the first one, went to a page with a phone # to call Microsoft to repair my computer, locked , had to press the start button 10 sec to shut down, then restart, still poping up, if you click the "X" it goes away...keeps coming back. It's a malware link. Mcafee just appeared, exed it away.

Windows 10 64bit

Microsoft has an application that may help you. The application is called the Microsoft Support Emergency Response Tool. The tool is available here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/defender-endpoint/safety-scanner-download

The tool is a small program that runs on your computer and does not access the internet. I suggest you download the tool to your desktop. Then you can double click on the file and run it. By default the tool performs a quick scan that takes a few minutes. The tool is destructive as it removes any file that it recognizes as malware. The tool may suggest it performs a full scan which takes longer than a quick scan.

The malware list inside the Microsoft Support Emergency Response Tool is updated and added to the tool daily. The tool will not work ten days after it has been downloaded.

Once you have run the Microsoft Support Emergency Response Tool, I suggest you run the built-in Windows 10 Security Virus and threat protection tool quick scan. One way to access this is by pressing the Windows button on the keyboard > Windows Security (System) > Virus and threat protection.

The reason I suggest running the emergency tool first and the built-in security second is it is common for malware to turn-off the built-in virus protection and you may not be able to turn the protection on until the virus is removed.

Joe Bill Moad, MacOS does get targeted by malware just like Linux does. Neither operating system is targeted as much as Windows for a variety of reasons. Apple versus Microsoft has been discussed too much. It's like discussing Ford versus Chevy versus Toyota versus Mercedes. They all make good vehicles.

Don't even need antivirus with modern windows, Windows Defender works fine.

Hi Bill,

That is good news. I'm so glad you were able to get it worked out and that you took time to let us know.

John,

I'm with you. Windows Defender is the only thing I have on my computer and is all I need. The "Security Virus and threat protection tool" I mentioned is one tool in the Windows Defender tool suite. However, sometimes malware will get on a computer and turn off Windows Defender without alerting you. When you suspect that has happened downloading and running the constantly updated and external "Microsoft Support Emergency Response Tool" normally is able to eliminate the issue.
