Product lit says -- D'Addario Nickel Bronze strings are made with nickel-plated phosphor bronze, wrapped over a hexagonal NY steel core.

I do recall that phosphor bronze strings are a bad choice for an magnetic pickup. What I don't know is if nickel-plated adds enough magnetic material or if strings specifically for electric guitar would a bet choice for a magnetic pickup. This for for my lap-steel.

The nickel plating is only a few thousanths of an inch thick - not enough to contribute to the output of a magnetic pickup. Despite their appearance, they're basically bronze windings as far as amplification goes.
