My trusty old Tascam field recorder died so I bought a Zoom H4 essential which I like so far. I thought I could control it remotely with my phone but discovered they only have an iOS remote control app. No Android.
I can't tell if the iOS only situation is because the H4 essential is new or is it that they just don't do Android? Does anyone here have any Android controlled Zoom recorders of any model? Any pointers to a Zoom usergroup also appreciated.

Bob,
To the best of my knowledge, Zoom has never released applications compatible with Android. All Zoom's smartphone or tablet applications are based on IOS or IPad operating systems.
Facebook has a Zoom Gear & Home Recording group. The group creator and moderator has had a Zoom group hosted by various entities going back to support for Zoom's first handheld recorder, the PS-02. To prevent spam the group is private but all you have to do is ask to join. Here is a link: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/kZj1yRXkaZ8TA1eB/
About
Zoom home recording gear information, discussion, and support. Everything from the Zoom PS-02 & PS-04 Palmtop Studio to the latest gear, plus you can post a link to your latest home-recorded song. The main rule is be cool.

Thanks Jim,
Lots of useful information there. I looked around in the old forum way-back machine out of curiosity but you had already answered my question. I'll keep my eyes open for a compatible iOS device. Having a remote control is very useful to me. Saves having to run across a room to hit the red button when recording a gig.
I'm not on facebook so I miss out on a lot of stuff that's not viewable by non-members.
I think we have met each other many years ago in a previous life. I sent you a PM. _________________ Carters Starter, D10 8+7, SD10, Chandler RH-2, Rogue RLS-1
