In the older Evans amps, what was the standard speaker that came with them? This would be the solid state 200 watt version if I have my specs right. It has the switches for the expand and depth and has the effects loop in the front. The pre-amp out is 1/4 inch with a volume control. I couldn't find a model number. Thanks for any help. This amp at this time has a BW but the mids and highs are horrendous. _________________ 2013 Williams D-10, 2019 Williams D-10, 1970 Fender Twin, Evans SE200, Fender Tonemaster Twin, Hilton pedal, Jagwire Strings. |

Sounds like you have a FET 500 Evans. Evans amps usually come with an Eminence speaker upon build. They seem sound a little on the bright side with those speakers. I solved that by using a 1502-4 BW as that is a bass speaker and has thicker paper. There is one for sale on the Forum right now. _________________ Cremation is my last shot at having a hot body...... |

The Evans FET 500 LV is notorious for the highs being sensitive and about 1.5 is the highest you can set the knob without breaking glass. This was my go to amps for many years both in large and small cabinet models. My first large cabinet came with a JBL E-130 and it was magnificent. The original speakers in most were the Evans Eclipse made by Eminence and an upgraded option for awhile in the 90’s was the Fane speaker, one of which I still have. Both were a great match! I tried a BW 1501 once and quickly removed it precisely for the same reasons you’ve mentioned.
If you’re looking to tame down the mids & highs there may be someone with an Eclipse speaker. They show up once in awhile. There’s a current Eminence speaker available that’s a really close match including the same cone and they sound nearly identical. I’ve attached a link. I’ve used a few of these with great results and still have one in an old Carvin tube amp. So if you want to try the Fane or Eminence Delta and unable to find an Eclipse I have both available. These Evans amps are just about the best vintage steel amp available. Especially the 82 though 89 Darrell Stevens models.
