Pedal return springs yes or no?

Late model Sho Bud pedal return torsion springs Yay or Nay? The ones that go on the cross shafts.

What are the pro's and cons?

I have a Super Pro that only has them on pedals 4 through 8.

None on pedals 1 - 3 and none on any knee levers.

Did they come on all pedals and knee levers originally form the factory?

Some like a little play in the pedal so if they slightly touch it accidentally, the string or strings, pitch won't be altered. Some ,like myself, don't want any play so that pitch change can be as fast as possible. R P
I used to work at Sho-Bud. As I recall, all pedal cross-shafts had them. As far as K L,s ?

Makes sense.

Do they help at all with lower returns on pedals that have lowers (like pedal 8 for example) or does the strength of the lower return springs make them insignificant in that regard?

Pedal return springs have good points and bad points.
It is another personal thing on a guitar.

If the return spring is on the pedal or cross shaft, It Returns the pedal with either raise or lower pulls, On a guitar with All Pull Changer.

MSA Classic guitars have pedal return springs attached to the cross shaft.
I played and gigged a MSA S10 Classic for many years with the pedal cross rod return springs. I liked the return springs, I had to sit rather close to the guitar, To reach all 4 knee levers. I could feel the pedals with my foot, And not change open tuning by touching and feeling the pedal, While playing. I had them adjusted to 1/4" - 3/8" free travel before engaging the changer.

Now I understand why a previous owner had removed them from pedals 1-3 but left them on 4-8.
I'll leave it as is for now.
