Well, a new guitar fell into my lap. It's a handmade D6 by my tech Jon Brown (JB) of Brown's Guitar Mill in Newnan GA. It's made from a single piece of mahogany and the scale length is 23":
JB made it back in 2012 and I remember seeing it 8 to 6 years ago in his store. He had it set up in Open E and another tuning he didn't recall. About 4 years ago it was gone and I assumed that he had sold it. A few weeks ago I had stopped to pick up a nut he had made for me and I saw it in the corner of his workshop covered in dust & cobwebs. I said "JB, you got to do something with it" and he said "make me an offer". Well I didn't need another lap steel let alone a double neck 6 string so I told him I would think about it. Last week I stopped by again and told him I could probably sell it for him here in the classified or on Crag's list. We discussed numbers and I took her home with me.
I cleaned her up, and put on new strings. It looked like a different guitar. The inner neck I set up with Open G Dobro and the outer neck is C6.
The pickups are DiMarzios. The inner neck is a 10K Bluesbuster and the outer neck pickup is a 7.5K Erick Johnson Custom - very nice.
The nuts & bridges are made out of brass.
It has two volumes and one one master tone & a 3-way switch. The tuners are full size Grovers.
The neck inlays are very nice.
After I had cleaned it up, tightened up the Grovers, and re-strung it, I just couldn't let it go. The guitar was too good and the price was too good so I just paid JB for it. I've let one too many guitars get away in the past and if I had sold it I would have regretted it for years to come.
I am just going to enjoy this one for a long time. It will make a great jam session guitar.
