Hello, I picked up a Harmony Golden Jubilee lap steel guitar. I have noticed the second string is considerably less in volume than the others. There aren’t any pole screws to make adjustments. I took the back off but can’t see what is causing this problem.
If anyone has advice on how to rectify this please let me know. Are pickups available for these guitars?
Thanks in advance Don |

It's an odd pickup design, with three coils each "seeing" two strings. As you noted, there's no adjustability. It is what it is, and string balance is not its strength. |

Is it that part of the pickup is dead? Can a repair person fix it? It’s so annoying, I have to pick that string harder. Maybe a different pickup?
Thanks Don |

It's not dead; that string is just between coils or maybe catching the edge of one. There's no way to fix it without taking apart the pickup and modifying it, which is likely to damage it and cause more of a headache. A different pickup could fix it, but also hurt the resale value of the steel. |
