Hey Everyone. I have a question on a passive volume pedal issue. I have a really nice passive volume pedal that is humming quite a bit. The humming increases with the volume. The pot isn't scratchy at all. It kind of sounds like a grounding issue but all of the solder joints look great. When I use my Telonics pedal, I have zero noise. I assume it's not any of my effect pedals causing that but not sure. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

| I really doubt it's the volume pedal since its passive. Do you get the hum without the passive pedal while using your effects? I suspect power supply from effect pedal causing a ground loop issue. |

Or possibly Single Coil pickup hum.
The Telonics would mostly override this, but the passive pedal tends to emplasize this hum.

| Check the grounding on the passive pedal. If someone spilled something into the pedal, The frame ground may be corroded. |

I forgot to mention...this pedal is open on the bottom. It has no cover and is not designed to have one. I had read that may be causing the issue. Still not sure.

In addition to the other questions that have been asked........
What kind of volume pedal is it?
Is the problem hum, or is it noise? They are NOT the same thing.
Did it always do this, or is this a new problem?
Did this pedal have a cover at one time? Or is it designed without a cover? It seems odd to me that the design would be without a cover. |

It's a Show Pro volume pedal. It's a hum. I only noticed it after i switched from humbuckers to single coils. It seems like it was designed without a cover. Really love the volume pedal so I hope I can get it figured out.

Seems to be a grounding issue. If I touch the pedal with my hand, the sound basically goes away. Not sure how to fix that. Could just be the consequence of single coils?

I would agree with Bobby Jones above you need to check the ground continuity with a meter.
Connect the steel to VP and a cable from the VP output and probe that the endplate, VP jacks, and sleeve of your output cable jack are all shorted or 0 ohms.
If the lack of cover were the problem the hum should if you pick up the volume pedal and rotate it etc.
Ther are lots of VPs over the years with open bottoms so I would not suspect that and once again moveing the VP would change it if it was the problem, just like turning you r telecaster a bit to reduce the hum.

And there you have it. Nothing at all wrong here, this is why humbuckers were invented. |

Another thing to check.
From taking the VP in your hand stops static.
The ground problem may be in the plugin jacks themselves. Remove the nut and washer and remove the jacks from VP, Steel wool Jack contact with VP and around jack hole in VP where it makes contact, The spring positive contact and inside jack where ground contact is made. |

MIGHT BE A,C HUM FROM AMP. TRANSFORMER,MOVE AMP, FARTHER AWAY FROM GUITAR.I HAD SAME PROBLEM WITH SINGLE COIL PICKUPS.
