Hi guys, new member here, Roger.

I searched but seen so many pages so I'll ask. Not getting the same amount of volume on every string so I think maybe the pickup on my Harlin bros 6 string needs cleaning. How would you go about it?

It looks like the pole pieces are adjustable, I’d try that first.

Yup, that's what the screws under each string are for. A bit of schmutz should have no effect on the pickup's function.

I adjusted the screws to 3/16 in below the strings yesterday and a bit better on string 4, no effect string 1. Just a few sound flat or dead and adjusting does nothing. They are new GHS strings. I was kinda thinking does the screws come out to where I can blow a little air and spray a bit of cleaner in the coils but don't know for sure what's in there, and I can see some rust around the screws. I haven't played this guy 5 hours in the last 50 years.

After sitting in the case for about 50 years, might have more than just a schmutz. Probably have to take the whole control out cause the volume fries and cuts out when turned all the way up. Just concerned about what's inside the pickup under the screws.

Trying to clean it with any form of solvent is not a good idea, it may affect the coating on the wire. dirt will not affect the electrical performance.
Are the strings lined up over the polepieces? dos not look like it on the picture.

That's a bad idea. Most likely, the pickup is fine now, and you're more likely to damage it than help it by taking it apart.
