Hi forum,
I've been helping out a new player who has a fessenden guitar. One of his changer pull rods ejected itself from its bellcrank. He hasn't found any stray pieces on the floor or otherwise since this happened. I've never rodded these guitars (and it's not in front of me) so i'm here to ask:
Do fessenden pull rods have a special retainer clip or pin to keep held to the bellcrank? If so, how can one source a new one?
Cheers!

Hey Andrew. No -- there are no retaining devices. I had a rod that kept falling out (a full step raise and full step lower on the same string made for the kind of slack that caused this). My solution involved a rubber band. Not proud of it but it worked. I was always convinced that there was a better solution just out of the reach of my brain. Then I moved on from that guitar.
It wrapped around the comb like so:

O rings such as used by MCI work also. Anything to prevent the rod jumping out of the comb.

A small cable tie would also do the trick :-} ... just snip off the excess once you have it tightened down. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

Andrew, just curious.. Does he have a lot of slack in the rod normally? If that's the case, I'm wondering if maybe he can move it down to a lower slot and take some of the slack out with the tuning nut so that it's properly captured and can't fall out.
I guess another couple of issues could be how much perpendicular rod length he has after the bend — like if it's just a little nub or if he has a healthy amount of protrusion — and if the wrap-around part of the puller would need to be bent in a little. |
