Hi Steel Community..

Inquiring about a good heavy duty road case.
What are you guys using to travel your guitars around.
I.E —- flights

I currently have a pelican case but I had to put my own wheels on it. Airline keeps breaking them off and they don’t and want cover the repairs.

Appreciate any response.
Keep on Picking

Hey Dashawn, I’ve been using an SKB iSeries 3i-3614, with a custom interior made by Alcorn Case Company in Nashville. I’ve been very happy with it. Wheels feel solid, plenty of handles, fairly light but still sturdy. The custom interior goes a long way towards keeping the steel safe, but if you’re handier/braver than me, SKB can make the case with cubed foam for a DIY interior. They make the iSeries case in loads of sizes too. It’s a pricey route overall but I’ve never had an issue on a flight, so it’s worth it to me.

As an aside, your playing inspires me so much. Drums, Roots & Steel is at least a weekly listen in my house. Your pocket is untouchable. Thanks for the amazing music!

Another vote from Nashville for the SKB iSeries. I’ve flown mine regularly and have yet to have a problem. Plus, though I have never had a hardware issue with mine, the few folks I know who have had something break on their case have found SKB to be super helpful and quick to get them replacement parts.

Ive used the SKB Drum trap case for years to fly my Zums about the globe !! never had any issues or damage to my guitars at all.
I have had one of the wheels rip off, and also a handle due to airport Gorilla's --= but SKB replaced the parts free of charge which was great.

I had to custom line out the case with foam myself but it comes with 3 internal luggage straps as well to keep the guitar secure. They are also quite a bit lighter than the Pelican cases.

I also have Red Dirt split cases for my everyday gigging and road trips ... solid as a rock

I use a Pelican air 1745 case for my emmons. They come with “pick and pluck foam”, so you can measure and perfectly fit anything you would like in it.

I've got the SKB trap case as well, with a homemade foam job. I fly a couple of times a year. With my single neck GFI Expo it weighs 48 lbs.
Never had any issues with it.
They always ask if it's a weapon.

Red dirt flight cases, I had one made for my Mullen D-10 and it SURVIVED Fed Ex. They are the case suppliers I believe for MSA guitars and are also an option for Rittenberry guitars. I also ordered one for for the new Rittenberry I’m having built
