Need to order a handful of these for my Sho-Bud swivel bell cranks. I expect to lose more than two or three as I rebuild this beast and I've only got a half dozen fresh rings left.
What's the size?
Looks like it could be cheaper buying an online assortment set than a single size (which is ridiculous) but I want to be sure it includes the size I need. I do have a good hardware store so that will be my first stop to find the single size, soon as I know the size.
Thanks.

Also -- I am once again taking nominees for a useable pair of snap ring pliers properly sized for this. I got a cheap pair with changeable fingers and they are simply awful. I yearn for a pair of fixed-point 45° external snap ring pliers. |

I don't know much about the US tool market, but over here most hardware stores are aimed at DIY amateurs and their products range from very cheap (and useless) to mid-price (and acceptable). For the good stuff, you need a pro tool store, sadly with prices to match. Quality snap ring pliers can cost up to 100 bucks, while the Asian cheapos cost 10-20 or even less.
I don't know what brands are available on your side of the pond, but I've seen what seems like good quality pliers from German Knipex and Milwaukee, which i suppose is American, around 70 dollars.
As always, you get what you pay for. |

For sure, I hear you, Per. But my experience was that I had cheap pliers that lasted a long time. The task is so delicate that they really don't get terribly stressed. But finally a tip broke off. It is no longer available.
The ones I have now were Harbor Freight which is Grade Z quality. It needed to have the tips filed down (too large) but that was ok. But the interchangeable working ends are simply crap. They attach loosely and wobble around. That mistake was mine. I need something with fixed tips. There are a zillion candidates online. I'll file down the tips if I have to. If I can get a few years out of one and need to replace it once in this lifetime, I'm probably ahead of the game vs. spending big money for a tool that is better than I need it to be. I'm not working on transmissions all day, every day. Just a few Sho-Bud and Emmons swivels now and then.
Meanwhile.....does anybody know the circlip size? |

I just want to thank Ian.
Whenever I do this for someone or someone does it for me, I just think that this is how things should be. And sometimes they are.
I've got what I need. Already!
A big THANK YOU. |

Oh man, Michael -- I looked. Didn't use the search bar. Just browsed Sho-Bud & Emmons parts. I see it now. Under Hardware.... Makes sense. Shoot.
You were/are my first-call for this stuff. |
