S I T strings breaking

I haven't broke a string in years and last night 2 new SIT .011s broke on me. Put on a GHS no problem. I bought the set thru Amazon, maybe counterfeit? Anybody else have issues with SIT?

It occurred to me that altho the string sets I was using were SIT, The bulk 3rd strings I was using were in fact not SIT, they were JustStrings bulk strings sold by the dozen.

Gotta say, I just ran into this with SIT strings, gauge .011's. On a Zumsteel and an Emmons P/P. This was all in the last 3-4 weeks at gigs. Couldn't even get them to tune up, and at a gig you need to quickly. Broke 5 in a row on the Zum, and then last week the Emmons was starting to act similar. I attribute it to the strings.

I'm a dealer and will report this back to the rep from SIT. He's a good guy, and should bring this to the main boss's attention.

Anybody talk to a rep at SIT strings? These things (bad batches) have happened to other string companies, and in the past other the companies have provided info and replacements.

Edit —sorry for the redundant answer. I just noticed Ronald Sikes said the same thing on the G# thread.

I talked to the rep from Just strings and their only comment was that I had bought them several years ago. I didn’t bother responding that they were in air sealed packages with dehumidifiers.
Kind of pissed me off after being a loyal customer for a number of years. They could’ve sent me a dozen strings that only cost three dollars or something. Lol
I am using GHS high test now and ordering through strings by mail.

I went through this last year. SIT strings... three .011's in a row broke! I was so frustrated, I ordered a new tuner from Mullen. I put the new tuner on the guitar and then broke another .011! The roller was fine, so the problem had to be the strings. I've since gone back to buying single strings by gauge from my local music store.

Interesting.
I broke two SIT .011s in a row last night.
Also had an annoying whine on the 3rd string.
I tried all the regular tricks with no luck.

Found this thread - put a D'Addario .011 on and no more sitar whine. Holding up fine.

If you were buying bulk strings from just strings, they are not SIT strings.
They are juststrings bulk strings
Different brand.
Still they seem to be crap.

Interesting. I broke about 10 SIT .11s in a week a couple months ago.. I have no confidence in that string anymore ... plus they usually draw blood and could take an eye out..

I ordered "12-pack 11.5ga. (.0115") Steel Guitar Strings - Made in the USA!" form amazon and still on the first string after several gigs....

I've had 0.11 woes for years. My Excel is 25" scale, so the only string that EVER stayed on reliably was a George L reinforced. That said- there are a number of threads on here about the high G# breaking. Jim Palenscar commented once that in general all string guages are produced in ONE (or few) factory, so when a bad batch goes out, ALL manufacturers see unnacceptable breakage. Jim went on to say that he used to see epidemics of 0.11 breakage in spurts, suggesting bad manufacture which is attributable to the factory, not the company name on the label.

Lately I've been putting plenty of windings around the peg (just on string 3) and that seems to help prevent breakage. Strings usually break at the bridge end, but I think having all those windings helps to absorb some of the stress on the string... or maybe not?

Doug, i believe that's the cleanest string wind I've seen on any string. I put plenty on my 3rd too but not as neatly as that.
