I just recently experienced one of my favorite Surrealist painters art exhibit. René Magritte. Many of his most famous works are based on his beloved hat.
Which got me thinking about one of my favorite steel players and his famous hat....because its the same hat!
Whats the story on The Big E's hat? Or any stories?
Although its prob not as good as I hope, I am really curious. THANKS!

I know its a Derby hat and he named a few courses after it.
Magritte called it a bowlers hat. Charlie Chaplin wore it. ...Did the Buddy just have a good sense of humor?

Who knows? There's Laurel and Hardy, Bat Masterson, John Steed (from "The Avengers"), and a host of varied chaps that have worn them.

The answer to this, not necessarily relative to the hat (the story behind which I know nothing), is that yes, the Buddy had and the Buddy has a good sense of humor. |

That hat you show and the one Buddy wore are called Bowler hats in England .
Apparently in USA they call them Derbys |

I seem to remember a story, someone correct me if I am off, but when Buddy was travelling in England with Roger Miller, they happened into a "hat" store; Buddy tried one on, and Roger encouraged him to go for it....

If someone were to acquire Buddy's famous hat, I can't help but wonder what price one might be able to get from E-Bay or where ever.

I've always been fond of the surrealistic art of Magritte. The man with hat and apple floating in front is perhaps his most well known. I love the hats! I've collected a number of them, mostly cowboy style but a few bowler and gambler styles too. Anyone wearing a bowler while playing steel is tipping their hat to Buddy!
