For six years, I gave the pedal steel a break to learn how to play dobro, and my idea for playing the dobro came because I wanted to play something acoustic, in addition to playing steel. The reason for the break was because I wanted to see if there was any other bar I could use that would work better for me on steel since I have cerebral palsy, so by 2022, I kept telling myself, "I miss playing steel", and by 2023, I decided it was time to get back to the steel, so I got excited when I heard that Emmons Guitar Company was coming to Sevierville, Tennessee, so in 2023, I went to Emmons, and played a 1994 Emmons D-10 as an experiment with different bars, the first two or three bars were stainless steel, but then I tried out a white bar, and I noticed I was holding it straighter on the steel, and it was an Ezzee Slide polymer bar, and I now have a bar just like it as my main pedal steel bar. I've noticed that I now enjoy playing pedal steel more than ever because I have a bar that stays in my hand and on the strings of my Jackson Blackjack Custom steel, which is now nicknamed "Midnight Rider", and I'm now playing songs like "Rose Colored Glasses", "End Of The World"(Skeeter Davis), "Walk Through This World With Me", and have recently learned a song by singer Allison Moorer called "Send Down An Angel", which has awesome steel parts, and I'm also playing two Trace Adkins songs, "Every Light In The House Is On" and "This Ain't No Thinkin' Thing" |
