Some time ago I saw Dale Watson perform and his longtime steel player, Don Pawlak, was with him. The whole band was great. I was really taken with how good Don Pawlak was.

There are bits and pieces about him on the Forum here but I wish there were an in-depth interview with him somewhere. Just curious about his background, influences, approach to playing, gear, etc.

Saw Don last week at the Pour House in Raleigh. He is one of my favorites, one of the most creative players out there. Besides his excellent playing, he comes up with some cool sound effects behind Dale's stories. He was playing thru a Fender Twin Reverb with an oversized cabinet with a single 15" speaker.

If I'm not mistaken, Don was playing around Seattle before he joined up with Dale Watson. I remember him there several times during the 1990s and played a venue that featured a couple of bands, I was in one band and Don was in the other. Nice guy and great player.

Don is great saw him a week and a half ago in NYC with Dale, I think he.s been with Dale for almost 22 years.

He is a native of Ohio, up by Cedar Point, as I was also born near Cleveland.

I agree he is a top shelf steel player and is very inventive and creative. He and Dale almost seem to know exactly what the other is thinking and it makes for an exciting show!
