I just took in a Super Pro project. Serial number puts it in the second half of 1982. It's only distinguishing feature is that it has Grover full size tuners (and judging from the nicotine-crud half-life, they are original to the steel), and the headstock "rails" are 1/2" thick as opposed to 1/4" on my ol' reliable Super Pro with Sperzels. Anyone know whether this is a "thing" with Super Pros? Pretty sure the headstock is from the factory, or else it's a damn good copy.

This steel came from the Guitar Center in Fairview Heights IL. Pretty birdseye blond, Day setup. Ring a bell with anyone out that way? Looks like it was rode hard and put away wet; it will be an all summer tear-down, clean-up, refurb project.

Sho~Bud was still a "Custom" shop and the person ordering can specify anything different that he wants as they are building it. He probably wanted the old style Grover Rotomatic tuners; and those won't really fit on new SuperPro Keyhead; so a fitting keyhead was used. Or I can name 4 more different scenarios, as without even seeing it, but you get the point now??
