just saw this vintage Evans on Reverb... apparently the fifth one made and possibly belonged to John Hughey, though the seller has no proof.

I'm not familiar with the Hybrid 300, just the FET 500 and some of the newer models. anyone have one?

I don't ever remember seeing John use that model amp, but I bet if you contact John Buffington at Evans, he might be able to offer assistance.
He is a great guy.

I have one that belonged to Maurice Anderson for years. Maurice put a Peavey branded JBL speaker in it and it sounds really good. When I bought it several years ago, I sent it to Derrell Stephens for a 100,000 mile tuneup. Derrell owned Evans at one time and knows these amps inside and out. Both of the guitars in the picture also belonged to Maurice.

We did many shows with Conway and John back in the day. John and I were both playing through early FET 500s back then.

In talking to him about Evans amps I seem to recall him telling me that he used a Hybrid 300 on many of those early 70s Conway recordings. Maybe a Twin too.

I had a Hybrid 300 for short time before I got an early FET 500 (high-volt) from Derrell. Had a JBL D-130 and really sounded good, especially on the E9th neck.

OOPS, my Evans pictured above is actually an FET500. They look identical on the outside.

The listing also says that the first ten Evans amps produced went to Conway Twitty's band & referred to Hughey as a lap steel player.

So...

I do know that Mr. Hughey played this Evans 300 that I presently own. There's a picture of him floating around here somewhere with this one behind him.
