I am currently listening to Bill Frisell's "Guitar in the Space Age" and quite enjoy his work on this album. Another user in another thread mentioned an album titled "Steelonious," but I couldn't find it anywhere, and that sounds right up my alley as I love the work of Monk and want to hear more of this guy! If y'all have any other similar recommendations, I would be happy to hear them. _________________ NC->TX |

Greg Leisz is the A-list pedal steel session player in LA so he's played on all kinds of recordings for the past few decades, mostly Americana but a little of everything except for maybe modern country. That discography list Mike posted is, well... the word "impressive" doesn't cover it.
Since you're looking for jazz, he's played a little with Charles Lloyd too. Check out this concert. I really like this version of Shenandoah that's cued up in the first link. He gets a long, simple melodic solos on this one, and as always, it perfectly fits the song:

Greg is my favorite steel player.
This is a real cool ambient album with Greg and legendary electronic pioneer Suzanne Ciani playing her Buchla.

This version of Jackson Browne's "Looking into You" live from home during the pandemic is really nice. It's hard tackling a song Sneaky Pete originally played on but Greg handles it masterfully. His playing on the recent Austin City Limits with Jackson Browne is very good.

Hi Jack - Steelonius is an album made by SGF member Mike Neer. As a Monk fan I believe you will enjoy listening to the album as well as the rest of his recordings. He's got serious chops! |

Allmusic.com is a source I sometimes use. Search for him and it should list some albums he played on. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
