Topic: Sho-Bud The Professional D-10 - Adding Levers? |

Hey,
A friend has a Sho-Bud The Professional D-10. No idea of the year, but it has the curved levers, so early 70s?
Anyway, it's 8x2. How difficult is it to add knee levers? A Vertical? Also, how available are the parts?

For a good Tech its not a huge deal but for a player who has never done MAJOR repairs there are many issues that can pop up. Remember these guitars were custom made and no two are exactly the same and there are no real perfict fit kits out there. Everything has to be fit and aligned by the installer.
As far as parts I can make the parts or Wayne at Out West Steel Guitars can supply parts.

they're very easy to work on.
parts used to be available via michael yahl at psg parts, but sadly he's not making them currently.
depending on the mechanism (probably rack and barrel if it is a 70s professional), you can source racks and barrels from someone, and then have the levers and brackets made for you. there is also (in my opinion) no harm in mix and matching different sho bud eras to add a couple of knee levers. sourcing the parts is probably going to be your biggest challenge. |

YES indeed Dave as working on Shobud's is my top Job same as playing/recording; and now I can get back to work with Michael able to surface again.

| Around 2000, I purchased a ShoBud Professional with only two knees. I added two additional knees myself, no problem. I obtained the parts here on the forum by posting in the Wanted section, of course they were used, but when I got them, they seemeed to be fine and actually fit perfectly. I'm really not a mechanic, but I followed photos and help from the forum here. But you can purchase new parts now as well, or simply send the steel to someone else to install parts. Either way works. |

Thanks for that info Ricky, I have ordered 4 teardrop knee levers for my Sho-Bud I restored and it will now have the proper levers.........

Yes Joe that is awesome; BUT!!! Michaels curved knees have a small set screw on bottom fitting section that you can screw (6/32" I think) that set screw in or out to adjust closer or further from your Knee....ahh...ha....Sho-bud never had adjustable curved knee levers EVER..ha...But Michael fixed that. See...Look>>>

That is great but I am happy just to have the proper levers. I might even put the rods on the lower neck and string it then. Actually I have not fooled with it too much as I have been preoccupied with some medical issues I am dealing with, but I will get to it. I was also hoping get on the ZBs soon..........
