I took a look under the hood and the collar spring on my LKR that lowers the 8th string E is broken in half. Everything still functions correctly and returns to pitch. The reason I was looking in the first place was to try a figure out how to lengthen the throw of that drop which doesn't appear possible on a push pull. Do I need to replace this spring if everything is working correctly or will it improve something? Also, where can I find these specific springs online? _________________ Modified Emmons GS-10 3X4 and too many iPad apps to list. |

If it works, leave it as is until it doesn't. It is only going to travel so far.
Just my 2 cents. |

It is not likely broken. More likely is that two short pieces of spring were used originally. _________________ Chris Lucker

I think you are correct. But why? _________________ Modified Emmons GS-10 3X4 and too many iPad apps to list. |

Because, despite how much spring you usually see between swivels and collars, often just a few turns of spring are enough. If a few turns of spring aren’t enough, add a couple more.
I have a fly box full of springs and bits of spring. It is easier to add a bit more spring than get the dikes and cut a new length.
It is interesting that on the first Emmons guitars, on the pull rods there were no compression springs between the swivel and the collar. But the pull rods connected to the fingers with extension springs, as on a Bigsby. The springs looked like the third style lower return springs Emmons started using that have the integrated hook and straight length. _________________ Chris Lucker
