Wade Thomas. Thomas Case Company. Professional case builders. Can't be beat. Things were slack during the shut down, but I understand he's back in business now.

His family has been building cases for Emmons and just about every steel guitar mfgs. for over 50 yrs.

Just search his name here for his contact info.

I am currently searching for someone who builds lightweight Steelguitar cases using the same or similar material as drum cases.
Anyone with information on this , please respond.
Thanks

Red Dirt Cases make both steel guitar cases, and also a "split" version - body case and leg and rod/pedal bar case to split the load - fabulous cases.

Dale- Steve Hinson's Brand X is probably what you're after. Not sure if he's building them these days- great player, great guy, busy. His cases have lasted longer than any I've used for flights, and are significantly lighter for in town shows.

I just purchased a custom half case from Jimmie Hudson several weeks ago. I gave him my measurements and he had it built the same day. I’m very happy.

1) Steve Hinson recently posted that yes he is making Brand X cases.
2) You PM'd me a tech question 12 days ago which I answered but you've never opened the PM.

Here’s what a person needs that has flight dates.

I’m thinking these come with a flight case.

Probably under 40 pounds in the case.

There are choices here same as with most items, but I have a couple observations I'd like to pass on.

Having been there, there is more to case building that just good looks. The knowledge that comes with experience in the field, the construction material, the wood, the maybe screws but rivets and how they are installed, the covering, lining, blocking, and the very important fit. That's why I would choose someone who has met all these criteria qualities and is familiar already with the various sizes and brands out there. That's why I endorse Thomas Case Company for conventional built lined cases.

Concerning fiberboard, it's tough, strong and durable as anything else. It's nothing like cardboard mentioned in another thread.

It has been used to transport drums and drum hardware all over the world. Consider a kit's worth of stands and hardware and the weight involved.

Since the 60s and 70s, builders have made lined steel guitar cases using the same material all the way back to Woody Woodell at least. Danny Bentley took up the task in later years until the present time with Steve Hinson.

I used a set of Bentley built split cases for a number of years and only sold them after I was out of pedal steels. They allowed me to transport a D10 pedal steel where otherwise I couldn't have handled the weight.

The fiber may look flimsy due to it's thickness, but I can assure you it is not. Yes, it will show scratches same as tolex or anything else but it's durable as all get out plus loses a ton of weight compared to conventional builds.

It's probably tougher than wood as wood will fracture with a severe blow where this stuff doesn't.

Not to steer anyone away from our members here who build cases, but another option is Philly Case Company. They build flight cases of all grades and configurations, and also the drum case type cases.

I have found other commercial case makers who do the same. They do tend to be pricey and you will have to supply them with the dimensions you will require as they are likely to know nothing about a steel guitar.
