Three cool bass lines (played at 90% of the original speed).
First one is from an mp3 that I must have gotten from the Forum at some time, the beginning of Dick McIntire's recording of "I'll do the Hula for You":
https://youtu.be/0qUwf5LR3Ps
I slowed it down and EQed it in Audacity, but probably didn't get all the notes right. The only online recording I could find of it is at:
https://digital.library.manoa.hawaii.edu/items/show/39363#?c=0&m=0&s=0&cv=0&xywh=-25%2C-1%2C349%2C300.
Second one is from YouTube, Loggins and Messina's "Lahaina":

This song will be sure to be a hit when the town starts to come back to life. Kumu Alan Akaka assigned it to his students as one of several songs about Maui.

Third one is from Alan's backing track for "Mele Kalikimaka".

My tuning is:
E
D
C#
C
B
A#
A
G#
G
E, low E tuned down D for Lahaina
Thanks to Bill Hatcher for building me a great guitar.
And since this is my first thread since b0b passed, all respect and honor to him for creating this forum and making it what it is.

Thanks very much Mike. It's fun exploring different styles, even above my skill level.
I have another, in-person, teacher now in addition to Alan, a local jazz bass player. He's pretty strict and putting everything I do "under a microscope". I know you love playing bass and hope to get some input from you too when I get more comfortable.
Aloha! |
