Hey.....via a few Youtubes and reels I've come across, I've grown to really love Curly's non-pedal playing. ala'

I'm with you Jim. Curly's pre-pedal playing is fantastic! Crying in the Deep Blue Sea is one of my favorite tracks of his from 1951 with Hank Thompson. Sounds like a Fender trap guitar. Intro, fills and solo are very tasty.

Every time I hear these old clips of Chalker I’m reminded that he was left-handed (playing right-handed steel). He’s very fast with the bar, fret to fret, and hammer-ons, and he has an unusual fast vibrato. I hear it more on his non-pedal recordings than on his pedal steel recordings. This is something I think about a lot because I too am left-handed at everything I do, except guitar and steel guitar.

Here are excellent examples of Chalker's playing with Hank Thompson. As best I know, he used Boggs' E13th, C6, F#9, and other tunings during this time.

Would be nice if there was more learning material, on these 8 and 10 string consoles . I would love to buy one and learn to play them . I am new pedal steel player, and 70, but would love to buy a 8 or ten string console steel.

The audio is appreciated, but I wish some of these videos were actually videos of the players playing. It would be interesting to watch Chalker’s hands.
