Here we have an authentic ZB Custom, SD-11, built during the Tom Brumley era.

***I'm going to hold unto this fine guitar, I don't think it can be appreciated properly via photos, gotta see and hear it in person.***

Leaving all photos so that it can provide information that is helpful to future ZB fans.

Thanks for all the interest!

One fine example of a Tom Brumley guitar. I’m sure Mike has this guitar playing like a dream.

Ricky,
Here ya go - someone got handy with a green paint brush.... Alien I do not have a photo of the case at the moment.

3 of the 4 knee levers have tilt adjustment built into their hardware.

Mike,
I'm pretty sure that green paint is original. My ZB SD-11 also had green paint underneath. Very close ser # to yours.
Sweet one!!!

Thanks Mike for putting under-pics up. Tom was my Neighbor and first pedal steel teacher in Austin, Tx when I got home from college 1981. I had a red Marlen with 3 knees and he would let me use and take home a ZB with 4 knees he said he built himself and looked a lot like this one. Did you find out when he built this?? At that time; Zane Beck had him start putting together the new line called BMI(Beck Musical Instruments) and if I remember right; Zane let Tom just take off with the BMI as he bowed out of building pedal steels?? sorry my memory is vague; I'll try calling Mom-Brumley(Rolene) and see if she remembers the time.

Thanks Eric, I've never seen a ZB with green underside paint, so I figure it may have been done by the previous owner to protect it??

Ricky - interesting history you have. Man, if I had a neighbor like Tom Brumley, I would have been in hog heaven!

I am only guessing it is a mid 70's, could be way off. The knee levers seem to be of the later design.

A few more photos -

Mike,
My SD-11 was green lacquer like yours. I've also seen one that was blue lacquer with blue paint underneath. Definitely factory paint.
