It was back in 1996. After a long exchange of letters, faxes and phone calls (remember, we were pre-internet back then!), I was finally able to arrange a Steel Guitar Legend to come over to Austria as featured star on our 2nd Austrian Steel Guitar Convention - the legendary Herb Remington. First and only rehearsal with a full Western Swing Band (My good buddy and teacher Carl Kaye & Route 66) was scheduled for the same day at night. Herb arrived - but no luggage (incl. Steel!). But he brought with him an unexpected guest, our good friend Dr. Bob Strum. Both real gentlemen and the nicest people one can meet! Herb's luggage (and the Steel!) arrived the next day, in time for the concerts. He did a series of 4 concerts at different venues and they were all fantastic!

Up to this day, it is still one of my fondest memoreis to had the chance of hosting Herb and Bob for almost a week, had them for lunch several times and showed them around and I think they really enjoyed it! Both Herb and Bob are gone now, but they live on in my memory forever!

Found these two old photos from then (#2 being taken in my living room!

Those were the days!

Kind Regards, Walter
