| I’m officially tired of dragging my steel from practice room to practice room, and I’m looking to add something else. I’m currently playing a Zum Encore so I have a fairly lightweight modern steel that I’m comfortable working on more or less. The question here is to look for another modern steel with a built in pad or space for one like a Discovery or a Justice ProLite or something like an older show bud or Emmons sd10 that would have been on the records I like. I had a student model Emmons in the past so I’m familiar with the weirdness of non modern changers, but do yall think it’s worth it? |

| That’s definitely on my radar. I’m more wondering how much more work a vintage steel would be to change copedent, set up, and maintain and if more experienced players would consider it worth it to have that as an option in addition to my more modern instrument. The practical option would be to buy something similar to the Excel, I’m just wondering if I would be missing out on something not having an older style guitar. In addition if there is a good reason to try one out, what should I look for. I have gathered that all sho buds are not created equal, I mostly just don’t know enough about the older instruments. |

| My Excels cover the vintage Sho-Bud tone quite well IMHO with the right EQ settings but do have more sustain along with better mechanics. If you lived closer to me you could come check them out! |

I am a fan of having identical Steels, one for gigging, one set up at home.
Maybe buy the same brand/model in a different color? |

That's what I do too.
It sounds like you might be up for a change though. Go ahead and buy a used Emmons PP. If you don't fall in love you can sell it pretty easy.
