I recently received a case from Steve for just the body of my Sho-Bud Professional. He makes split cases but I already had a solution for my hardware (pedal bar, legs, rods) that I'm using. I'm thrilled with this case!
It's tough, very lightweight, and well padded. I think the body is actually better protected from breakage than in the original heavy wood case. I sent Steve all the measurements of the body and it fits snugly in the case with a dense foam padding on every side. I'm very glad I went this way. I'll try & upload some shots.
With the top in place the foam siding hugs the body and the dense foam in the top meets the body. There is no movement or flopping around whatsoever. Thank you Steve.

I PM'd Steve about building me a split case, and have had no response from him. Is he still building cases? |

@ L.M. English: Sure he's still making them. I'm under the impression it's not his main gig and he's pretty busy so there's a little wait. I think you can reach him at stevehinson@comcast.net |

I'm liking what I see and hear about these Brand X cases, and am thinking about ordering a split set. Nothing but good reviews. Has anyone lined the foam with a velour type cloth? Is that a purchase option? I prefer a soft interior and it shouldn't add that much to the overall weight. |

We are also building single cases with or without wheels...
Still playing for a living,so thanks to all for being patient!

By the way, "The Well Known Hinson" is a great player, too, aside from a great craftsman! Love catching your sets at the palace!
Great seeing you at the palace Friday night!

I'm glad to see someone is making these cases again. I have one of the originals (pre-Brand X) for my Franklin. In fact, back in the early 80's, Paul Franklin Sr. tried to persuade me to move to Nashville and start making these cases as so many people loved them for all their gear around town and the original manufacturer had stopped producing them. I considered it briefly but obviously decided against it. But I'm glad Steve's doing it and I hope his business is thriving (which means selling them to lots of folks other than steel guitarists!) _________________ www.JimCohen.com

I have one set of pre-Brand X cases and I love it. I'm going to order another very soon because as much as I like mine (made by Woody) Steve's look even better!
Truly the best option for a steel guitar case. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

We decided to use Steves' Brand X cases for the new premium
Lone Star Steel D-10's. I had remembered years ago having one and it was great.
Steve puts quality foam all around. These should last for a long time. The weight saving is incredible.
All Steve needs is some help getting them out. |

Funny that this topic resurfaces now…..
Yesterday I had the pleasure of talking with Randy Beavers for a while. This may have been discussed before but he says he used his Danny Bentley era fiber cases for all his fly dates. I believe Steve and Travis Toy do the same. There are probably others.
Just an FYI for anyone considering flying with their steel and wondering how these cases may hold up. _________________ Bill Cunningham

Scott,
How much does that case for your ShoBud weigh? _________________ 2016 Williams D12 8 x 8, 2015 Williams D12 8 x 8, 2023 Williams S12 4 x 5, Milkman Amps, 1974 Gibson Byrdland |

I think the fiber composite material for these cases is cost prohibitive know. |

Evidently it ain't too cost prohibitive...I'm still building them...
Anybody that needs one, get ahold of me...
We'll do something, if it's wrong...

PS-I flew my steel to Ireland in one of my cases last year...the airlines couldn't even knock it in tune... |
