I just posted a review of my new Robostar guitar on my web site:

Robostar Review!

I worked with Excel to get a few kinks out of the design and I think the guitar is absolutely stunning now.

Thanks Ross!

The Sierra is still king but between the Sierra, MSA and Excel you can't go wrong and a lot depends of what features you value most. The newer lightweight keyless guitars make packing for a steel gig (steel + ToneX in the seat) no more taxing than a tele gig (tele + pedal board).

The Excel really could use better string replacement instructions on their web site. After fumbling around with the first string, I figured out a really quick and easy process for doing the next 9 strings.

Thanks for the interesting review Greg! Strangely my Robostar (a couple months older) has a tuning mechanism that’s sort of a cross between the two - ball end held in a hook, but with the longer travel (I haven’t broken a string yet in around 150 hours play time and there’s plenty of range to tune with the wrap safely away from the roller)

Gotta say I’m pretty torn between the look of my black one and your red one - might need to order a 2nd haha

I could not be happier with my ExStar and an instruction about string changing came with the guitar. But some kind of manual which helps demystifying the complexity of the Excel changer really would be helpful...

Stew, I paid $100 extra to get the red. It was a hard choice between black and red! The tuner hole through string placement eliminates the string popping out of the claw while attaching it to the changer end.

Markus, these are truly great guitars and exceptionally compact and light with advanced changers with no compromise in sustain or tone IMO. The cryptic Excel web site really needs a huge upgrade

Another sound file with the ToneX Twin Reverb model set a bit more mellow on the tone.
