Hello friends!

I've a Mullen PRP SD-10 made in 1989. It currently has an E-66 I'd like to swaap out. Looking at the Telonics X-10... but there is nothing on their site about it. They do not make the 84 anymore.

I emailed Telonics and got a list of measurements and requirements to install but really just want to know if it will fit. Figured I'd ask here before I get out my vernier calipers and 'measure twice, order once'. I'm no machinist...

I believe the 84 narrow mount will fit just fine, based on posts I have read. If the X10 is the same footprint as the 84 we'd prolly be good to go.

Thoughts?

i'm not 100% sure the x10 comes in narrow mount. as far as i know, it was made for specific guitars, all of which had wide mounts.

It’s smart to ask for any personal experience in regards to pickups fitting. When I was building pickups for pedalsteels the slight variences between different builders was significant. I think it has gotten much more consistent over the last 10 years though.

If you can’t find somebody to confirm it fits I think you can trust the measurements that telonics sent you.

I recently installed a modern 705 in an old Zum student model. Had a rough go of it. The cavity was not deep enough. Or more accurately, there was changer-mounting hardware in the way. I hacked the pickup and got it in.
Your question (and Bob's comment) is spot-on. Any anecdotal info derived from actual experience with a particular pickup and a particular guitar is super valuable.

I don't know anything about Mullen pickups. My MSA has a mounting plate that the pickup is mounted onto. MSA SS pickups have screws on the bottom to mount the pickup to the plate. I mention this in case the Mullen does also. I had to make a new aluminum mounting plate to mount the many pickups onto the plate that I've tried over the years. I bought a Bill Lawrence pickup a few years ago and it was too long. I had to file a very small amount from each end of the pickup to get it to fit. The X-10 is not a widely used pickup. It may be hard to find a player using the X-10 on your specific brand and model guitar? Last time I looked at Telonics website, the X-10 was not in their brochure. It was a special order. The 409 is also a good choice. Any of the Telonics pickups with double row adjustable poles is an advantage to balancing the tone and individual volume of each string. You'll probably have to bite the bullet and use the measurements from Telonics compared to the dimensions of the pickup pocket. If you call Telonics, Sophie may answer the phone and she can connect you to the guy in their store that deals with with pickup questions. I think his last name is Hartley? He may have records on file specific to each brand and model guitar. He bends over backwards to please and inform.

I'm pretty sure all Telonics pickups are available in either narrow or wide mount so there should be no problem fitting a x10 narrow mount to your Mullen.
