Question about the history of the E9th tuning.

So, I got my old Superslide out, tuned in C6, and I've been having some fun working out the old hawaiian tunes and then going to the C6th neck of the pedal steel to see which pedals allow me to play without the slants as a way of learning more about the pedals and what they do.

But it got me thinking: when Bud Isaacs played slowly, what lap steel tuning was he using that he attached a pedal to? Was there an E13th tuning he was using or E7 or some other variation of E lap steel that leant itself to adding the AB Pedal pull?

Short answer - Yes, Bill. He was playing an 8-string E9.
