When did Fender make the switch from 3 legged Professional consoles with the trapezoid pickups to using 4 legs?

Thanks!

The didn't exactly "switch" from one to the other.

The first Stringmasters (4 legs) appeared in 1953.

The contunued to produce the three legged Dual Pros and Custom Triples for a few more years side by side with the Stringmasters.

The three leg models seem to have been discontinued by about 55/56.

Fender steel guitar history is pretty sketchy and info is mostly anecdotal evidence on this forum from people who have an "xxxx" model dated "yyyy".

So, it sounds like there were never any four-legged Dual Pros or Custom Triples from the factory? I had a trap pickup T-8 Custom that was dated 9-53 and it had three legs.

Even the latest ones have three legs. It’s a shame they didn’t make four legged or quad necked trapezoid models…

No 4 legged trap guitars but there was a quad.

I suspect it wasn't made in the Fender factory though I suppose there is a possibility that it could have been a custom order.
