I feel like a real pedal steel player today. I was listening to Ralph Mooney and heard him lowering his thirds in context. I’m just starting to hear common changes in context so it’s cool that it jumped out at me. The real shocker is I came home and changed both right knees on my encore from changes I wasn’t really using to the moon lower to g and raising the first string to g. And it worked. The first time. In tune. And even better I sat down and wrote a little 4 to 1 lick using the moon lever. I managed to hear music, make with the mechanism, and use it to make a musical idea. I’m pretty proud of that!

Congratulations Andre. It's a kick when you start hearing those changes in your head...this means that your ears are getting keener and you are progressing musically on your instrument.

Good luck along your musical journey.

Way to go, Andre.

The flip side of hearing a lick and being able to copy it is hearing one of your own “discoveries” played by Paul Franklin on a recording from 35 years ago. When that happened to me I was like, “yeah I taught him that one last week”. 😎
