Hey Paul!

On your E9 the 8th string (3rd lowest) is E. So if we are open (0 fret), no pedals, we are in the key of E. Then it goes up like this:

open : E
1st fret: F
2nd fret: F# (Gb)
3rd fret: G
4th fret: G# (Ab)
5th fret: A
6th fret: A# (Bb)
7th fret: B
8th fret: C
9th fret: C# (Db)
10th fret: D
11th fret: D# (Eb)
12th fret: E again

then it repeats! Hope this helps.

Mel Bay has a chord chart for E9th neck, It gives Major, Minor, 7th, Augmented and Diminished chords. It gives the raise, lower and open strings to make each chord. It is a road map for chords on the E9th neck.

The SG Forum store has the Mel Bay E9th chord chart in stock, At top of Page go to Instruction. They list the price $5.50 USA.

I made this up when I was first learning; had it printed out to scale in vinyl and glued it to my BMI. I sold the guitar with that fretboard still on it and found I didn't need it any more when I upgraded my guitar. (G)rapes, (A)pple, (B)anana, and 2 (C)herries for C#... then (E)verything
