I’m curious why these are called “permanents”? _________________ Modified Emmons GS-10 3X4 and too many iPad apps to list. |

The original perms had permanent welds on the cross shafts where the rods hooked, and therefore you couldn't change the copedent. This one has been reworked by someone.
Moderator edit - please, no inferences about pricing on For Sale ads. I preserved the relevant points about what a permanent is and that it clearly has more modern bellcranks on it, not permanently welded.

this guitar was not “reworked by someone “ , it had completely new modern “Jackson” pull release mechanism installed by Harry Jackson in Nashville … it is one of a kind , custom instrument , built by one of the biggest names in business … _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

I used to own this guitar. I had it briefly in the Summer of 2021.
It did not have welded cranks, as Jimmy explains "original Permanents had." Some 1960s Permanents had Fingertip-style bellcranks. This guitar had those Fingertip parts. I have had several cabinet end Permanents with Fingertip-style cranks. Sho-Bud sold Permanents until the late 1960s.
When I got the guitar, July 2021, I think, the guitar had dust catcher fretboards which may have been replacements, but the Sperzels and Nashville decal and the post-1950s pedals were original. It had brass rollers at the time. It buzzed, if I recall.

This is a cool one for sure
My guess is it’s from the late 60s based on the keyheads and the bigger permanent fingers and the fingertip style undercarriage that lucker posted. (I wonder if this was once a 12 string tho?? Cabinet end perms from the later era are rare but they do exist
Love this era of perm, I have jimmy days yellow perm from 1970 that is awesome
Awesome find and new undercarriage is great as its done by the guy that most likely build this guitar in the 60s _________________ Emmons Wraparounds and cut tails, Zum D10, Blantons , Fulawkas , Franklin D10, Sho Bud Permanents and Fingertips,Jacksons and Telecasters |
