Hi there,

I wanted to post this song here so that folks in the group could hear it. I had initially posted it a long while ago but I removed it because as soon as I did, I learned that the great David Lindley had just passed away. What an incredibly sad loss to the world.

I recorded this song of mine with Bruce last year, called “Beg, Borrow & Steel”. We both played lap steel, and we really liked how it came out. Hope you enjoy!

That’s great yeah I love mine, that guitar has worked for me for all different kinds of music and it always just seems to sound great! I have a couple other Valco steels but that’s the one I pick up all the time.

Jesse,
That is so excellent.
I can't remember where I discovered that video, but have viewed it a number of times.
As a new lap steel player, that song inspired me to what is possible on lap steel.
What tuning did you use?
I looked up your info and I think you are based out of or play around the London area.
I am in St. Catharines.
I'd love to see you play sometime.

Hey Derrick,

That’s really cool, I’m really glad it inspired you, and I really appreciate the kind words! Welcome to playing lap steel!

I was in Open E. In this case that guitar is in Open D and I capoed up to Open E. Low to high EBEG#BE. Bruce actually played it in Open G, which I found really amazing, because it gave him a different sound to the same melody! Love his signature sound in Open G.

I’m from London but I’ve actually recently moved back to Nashville. I was here before the pandemic and that’s when I met Bruce and so many other great folks. I wanted to do more recording, touring etc. But I come home to visit whenever I can. I’m quite sure I’ll be doing more playing in the area back home.

Best wishes with learning steel, it’s a lot of fun, and thanks again for the message!

Hey there,
I saw this post a few days ago. It’s my new favorite song, it’s made me want to go back and improve some basic technical stuff. I’m currently in
‘vibrato school’
Thanks, fellas!
