I've been using Boss TU-12 tuners time out of mind, and one of my two has bitten the dust. TU-12s have been out of production for a very long time, and although I don't like change I'm going to have to source something else that reads in hz and preferably isn't a stompbox. Recommendations? |

I've been using the "KEY TUNER" App on my iPhone now for about 3 years.
I've never had such a precise interface.
And it's free and doesn't bother me with advertisements.

Tablature KILLS SKILLS.
The uses of Tablature is addictive and has been linked to reduced musical fertility.
Those who produce Tablature did never use it.
I say it humorously, but I mean it. |

JD, what settings are you using with this... I just downloaded to try it out |
I got it set A=440 and Equal Temperament.
I must say that since I don’t have E9th anymore, I tune my PSG C6th up “straight” first and the ever so slightly adjust some strings, typically raising my C’s almost 5 cents and lowering my E’s as little as possible. I seek to get an similar speed of acceptable beats going as fast as you could say “whua-whia-whua-whua…”
IF I were to play non pedal or E9th, I would still keep my tuner ET/440 since I know the cents-spread I would need for minor 3rds and Major 3rds.
But to each it’s own.
Besides using it, I haven’t fiddled with rhe settings but I doubt you could make it learn Jeff’s tuning chart.
Put your phone on it’s side (wide screen) and if the tilt-screen function on your phone s enabled, it’ll make readind the cents on the top “micro-meter”-scale even easier.
Keep in mind that tuners “look” for overtones, to show a more precise reading, so don’t over-pluck and give each note the time to be analized to a stable finding.
Fun, huh?… JD. _________________ __________________________________________________________

Unless you tune every string straight up, a tuner that has the offsets programmed in is the way to go. Peterson StroboPlus HD does this and more.
There are a few phone apps that let you program custom offsets. I use gStrings as a backup to my Peterson. It's very simple to set up a customized tuning. If your phone has a headphone/mic jack, Peterson makes an inexpensive clip-on adapter, allowing you to use your phone app in noisy environments. If your new phone doesn't have a jack, it's an opportunity to repurpose an old one. _________________ 1980 MSA Vintage XL S-10, 1975 Session 400

Well, I unearthed my 1979 Korg WT-10 and it(amazingly!)still works, so I'll use it at home until I can find out for sure if I can navigate the learning curve on the Strobostomp. My other TU-12 still works fine, so it'll do for the gig.
Many thanks for all the ideas and opinions! |

Hi All I use a Korg LCA120. I have all of the strings & pedal settings programmed in so I just tune straight up Zero for them all. Saying that I only use it when I re string the guitar. My Guitar lives in the music room so tweak the odd string once in a blue moon Dave |
