Hey.....just curious if anyone owns, or has tried, the Recording King RM-991-S tricone? I'm interested in possibly picking up a sub $1k tricone, and have had good luck with Recording King Phil Ledbetter dobro and RK-R35 banjo.

Thoughts? Likes? Dislikes?

Thanks!

I played one that belonged to the late Ralph Carney a few years back. It was a perfectly decent instrument, with the classic tricone sound. I don't think he had done any upgrades to it, but I liked it anyway.

I’ve never tried a Recording King tricone, but love my Recording King parlour guitar.

For under $1000, the Republics are pretty great.

No, originals wore out in two years.

Mine has suffered the same fate. What did you install for replacements, and are you happy with them?

Some cheap open gear 2L + 2R Machine heads, worked fine now for some 7+ years.
