Single neck Fender 8 string steel lap steel made in 1953. Great sound with the twin Fender Telecaster pick-ups. Volume and tone controls are clean and quiet.
Forum members say this steel is part of a multi neck steel.

I will provide an accurate shipping quote from USPS once the steel is packed. A general shipping estimate in the lower 48 states is around $65.00.

| This is an orphan neck off of an early 26” scale Stringmaster. It’s common that people would break these multi-neck guitars up into lap steels, but they never came from the factory this way. This is also not a Fender case. That being said, it’s probably a nice guitar, but should be represented and priced as such. It is a modified instrument and did not leave the factory at Fullerton in this incarnation. |

Thanks for “looking out” Jon, Erv and Chris. I know lots of folks have the knowledge of production history on instruments and can see if a set screw is original or not, but I am not able. The forum has always had a level integrity and community that allows for comfort for those of us who aren’t able to discern historical details.

Cumon, Roger. You know better. I have that book by Forrest White- the copy he sent to Jerry Byrd. Could you please tell me on which page to look for evidence of your “prototype”?

Please accept my most sincerest apologies to all Forum members who responded!
I thought I had put post out out there to Forum members with a pic of this instrument a couple of weeks ago to better help me identify this steel how ever looks like it did not get posted which answers why no members responded and I’m quite new to posting and should have followed up to make sure I had done it correctly.
The info I received on this being a pre-production prototype came from a local repair tech who seemed to know a lot about early Fender history including Fender prototypes, then he also suggested to get a copy of this book written by Forrest White.
Bottom line, I did not do due diligence to verify information and messed up on posting this steel!

From the Fender Inside Story by Forrest White, this was probably a Leo Fender pre-production single neck steel built August 4th, 1953 by a long time employee with last name Cruz before Fender started producing D8’s, T8’s and quads in 1954 with legs. Production date is written under the original pre-production tuner pan which was replaced with the production tuner pan later. The original is included in the pre production tweed case. I’ve only been able to upload a few files so email me for addition pics.

As has already been stated on this and the linked thread, this is clearly an orphan long scale Stringmaster neck taken from a multi-neck Stringmaster. It appears to have a not-so-great refinish, and the case is non-original and kind of funky.
It is entirely reasonable to insist that the description be changed to be accurate. However, I do not think we should be telling the seller how to price it. The market will dictate what it can be sold for. But prospective buyers must have an accurate description to make a fair deal.
Roger - I think it would be smart to simply start this thread over with an accurate description of the guitar on a new thread. Quite a number of very knowledgable people have given all the information you need to craft an accurate For Sale ad. On your original thread asking for information, you had a lot of very informative replies within a day or two of your original posting. And that information has been reinforced here. |

Although I don't understand how it happened that you did not see notifications of all the responses to your initial question about this guitar, I am happy to see that apparently this did happen as I speculated it might have.
I'll double up on Dave's suggestion that you request closure of this one and create a new, clean ad that accurately represents the facts as presented by this expert community. |

I have the exact same guitar. It was, like yours, part of a triple or double and was cut to make a single. I would be VERY interested in buying your case ONLY if you would think about selling the guitar and the case separately.
