I have a Goldtone square neck resonator which had a Fishman Banjo pickup installed.Plugging directly to an amp doesn’t have a lot of volume . Is there a preamp or pedal that dobro players use.

The Fishman _banjo_ pickup?

Without sounding flippant , that makes no sense to me.

That's a very expensive pickup. I cannot fathom how the installation was done.

With all respect. You should install a suitable pickup. My preference is the Fishman "Nashville" bridge insert replacement.

Any suggestion for external gear for you would be speculative...at best.
