Pickup selection on 1975 Shobud The Pro-III

Hello, I have been playing a Pro-III since April and am hoping someone can explain what’s happening when I switch between necks. When I have just the E9 or just the C6 neck selected, it quite a thick sound. When I select both necks, I get a sound that is considerably thinner and spankier. Is there some kind of coil tap going on? I know other ShoBud models have coil tap switches for both necks but my Pro-III only has the Switchcraft 3-way neck toggle. Thanks for any help!
