Does anyone know who played steel guitar on Move It On Over? I'm asking about the version included in "Hank Williams 40 Greatest Hits."
I've transcribed the solo, and the tuning appears to be Don Helms' E6 but with the low string tuned to B. |

One of my favoite solos on a Hank record. Sounds like E 13th to me too.

To follow up, I've figured it out in C6. I tried in E13 but in the Leon McAuliffe tuning, I couldn't get the grips/intervals.
There ya go! Seems different tunings can achieve similar sounds. |

| Leon’s E13 won’t work. You need to drop the low F# to E, making it like a E6. Last week, I learned it in C6, since it seems like the original steel guitars was trying to sound a little like Jerry Byrd with that “slide into slant”. With the thicker C6 tone, I like it better, plus no need to untune my E13 neck. Good call on the C6, Joe! |
