Hi everyone. I know some of you are on Instagram, and some of you aren't. Has anyone seen this new "steel_guitar_marketplace"? It looks like someone is pulling for-sale adds from here on the forum and listing them on Instagram for a fraction of the cost. Clearly a scam. I've even tried messaging the page, and they did message back a few times with a bunch of things trying to get me to believe that they're legitimate.

I've reported it as a scam, and anyone who follows that page or has seen it should also report it. Unless of course someone on here can vouch for it.

Dan, I did the same. I recognized that Williams from the For Sale section and the posted price was WAY off. Something is up.

Right?? I've reported it and it's still up and running. I've also seen people commenting and inquiring, I really hope no one gets scammed.

I tried to report it but nothing in the pull-down menus pertained to the issue (it was not someone pretending to be someone else.....it was someone pretending to not be a fraud). Couldn't find any such reporting option.

But the fraud is so obvious, with each guitar being presented as a personal possession and the seller being....who? Would you send a few thousand dollars to an unknown seller who does not even offer a name? Or buy from a dealer who you have never seen in the steel guitar world before?

A person falling for this would largely have themselves to blame if they sent money to who-knows-where.

You make a good point Jon. I just hope they don't convince anyone to actually send them money.

I messaged them asking how they were taking payments and they messaged back with quite a lengthy at-first-glance legitimate response. They were trying to say that they have a 100% satisfaction guaranteed on all of their instruments, okay, yeah right buddy.

So, I figured it was a scam right away, and told the people I knew who also followed that account. Also, reached out to the account holder in a private message, trying to get info, and got this in response. I didn't pursue it any further, but maybe if someone else wants to.....

Thanks Jim!

Yes, I did the same thing and got the same response, almost. At the end of their message to me they mentioned hassle free returns. I then messaged back saying that there's nothing hassle free about shipping steel guitars back and forth if someone isn't happy with their purchase - no response. I then messaged again asking if they had a physical shop of some kind, or an office or anything to show their legitimacy - no response.

Steer clear! Stay Away!
