Spotted on eBay. I've seen a lot of old student pictures, but these ones are new to me. 1947, Los Angeles. Dickerson lap steels and amp.

Hiya Doug -

That 'group pic' reminds me of the 'ensemble' that the Owner of the Music Store that I initially took lap steel lessons from in Decatur, IL - via the Oahu Method, remember that? - put together to perform at the Illinois State Fair. We all had to wear white pants and bright blue satin shirts (my Mom the seamstress made my shirt).

I still have the Tonemaster Lap Steel (with the String Tone Changer), matching Tonemaster Amp - with its cool lighted logo, medals from the Fair, and 'Graduation Certificate' given to me as Christmas gift in 1964.

I remember my instructor telling my Dad, "your son Ronnie knows as much as I do!"

'Seems like only yesterday......

....Hah!

Ron

Ron, It’s great that you have those keepsakes and memories. The Oahu classes were just a few years before my time, but I have seen a lot of old Oahu sheet music over the years. I wish I had started on steel guitar at a younger age. I got into it in my early 20s.
