Topic: A pedal and LKV split, and then the Franklin pedal problem |

On my G2, I am figuring out how to do splits. I have the A pedal raise 10 and 5, and then the LKV brings it down a true half step (making the A&B pedals into a minor chord).
But now the Franklin pedal won't bring 10 and 5 down a whole step, and I can see why looking from the top. And turning the nylon nut doesn't do anything (but don't want to turn it a hundred times).
Am I stuck with this or is there something I'm missing? Kind of a downer. |

Back off split tuning screws at the end of the neck. |

But then I lose the in tune note, using LKV by itself on 10 and 5. I can't have it all three ways? |

OK, maybe I misunderstood.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to have the 5&10 lower 1/2 tone along with the splits on the same strings and also the 5&10 lower a whole tone?
No, I don't think you can tune all 3 positions like that...maybe by adding the extra rod on the B to Bb lower to raise the notes back to pitch.
Usually, timing pulls on the bellcranks will get you close enough. F.I., on the Carter I'm playing, the B to Bb on 5 comes out ok, but the 10 does not...no big deal to me as I don't really use it on 10.
The Franklin pedal requiring the longest pull has to be stopped by the split screws.
Look around here at the diagrams and threads on tuning splits if you're not familiar with the procedure.....I have some somewhere but I can't find them at the moment.

I had this same issue on the G2 I used to have. Unfortunately the only way to have both of these changes working is to add a pull rod to pull the the string back up to the split note. The split tuning screw will not work becausee it has to be backed out for the full tone lower of the Franklin Pedal. I ordered a rod and bellcrank from Mullen and added it to the guitar and that solved the issue. Thats the way splits were done on guitars that didnt have the endplate screws. _________________ 1967 Emmons Bolt On, 1995 Mullen PRP 3x5,Nashville 112, JOYO Digital Delay, Goodrich Volume Pedal, Livesteel Strings |

Not sure but I don't think you need an extra bellcrank. |

I posted a diagram above about the extra rod and bellcrank. |

OK thanks much I'm glad there is a solution. New pull rod for each-10 and 5. My cat brain will eventually figure it out.
I'll get minor chord with AB and LKV- the Franklin pull,-and I just learned a nice minor IV to I, using strings 9, 7, and 5 then resolving by using LKV and RKR. All in tune hopefully. Pretty cool. |
