Hey Everyone,
A few years back I bought my Marlene S10 from here. It works great with the exception of an aggressive buzzing noise I get when I max out my volume pedal or I direct line to my amp. I'm thinking I need a new pickup as I recently had the 1/4" jack on my steel replaced. The current picked is mounted with two bolts kitty-corner to each other. I tried to attach a pic but I couldn't figure it out.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a new pickup that is compatible with a Marlene? |

Someone else will have a lot more knowledge regarding a replacement pickup, but I'm pretty sure the steel guitar you're asking about is a Marlen, not Marlene. _________________ Mark |

Kevin Skrla from Tone Star pickups did a rewind of an old Marlen pickup for me. Wasn’t very expensive, didn’t take long, and sounds really good. A loud buzzing sound makes me think it’s something else though. It may not be grounded properly. |

(Marlen was its' name before it had its' gender changed)
All seriousness aside, If you have an ohmmeter, check the resistance of the pickup. It should be no greater than 35K and more likely no greater than 20K. Even a pickup with an open coil will make some signal.
Plug a cord into the jack and check it at the other end of the cord - this tests the input jack as well. |
