1953 blonde Fender Stringmaster, completely re-conditioned by a name Lap Steel manufacturer. New blonde finish, new case, new pickups and wiring and newly chromed parts and new 26” fretboards, original re-chromed legs and sockets.

I purchased 12 years ago from a music store in Philadelphia. They said it belonged to Bill Haley and the Comets steel player. It was a used lap at that time when I received it. So, I had it re-done as you see it recently. I have no written proof of the store’s claims but it does sound great and looks wonderful now.
$3200 plus $60 shipping—- cash price.

Gary Sill, 217-433-7455
will ship overseas for added shipping.

Erv, the two holes are probably where the owner rigged a pedal. Mine has the same "feature," although it seems that the holes would have been filled during restoration if that were the case. And there would be holes in the tuning pan. Go figure.

Exactly, I asked that the hole not be filled as it was probably just Mike suspects and I
do also that during the time of people experimenting with trying to put pedals on lap steels. Just speculation that is what was going on.

Wow. That's beautiful. Bet it sounds great.

Is that what a refinished '53 steel with all those non-original parts goes for these days? The market is really exploding, if so.

GLWTS!

Edit: My bad. Sorry. Didn’t catch that Gary included that info in the post .

Adam, neither Jim nor I accused Gary of leaving out info. Erv asked a question about the two holes in the bottom and I offered an answer based on my own experience. It's the same answer I would have given in another section of the forum and was not in any way meant to undermine the sale.

But Jim needlessly pointed out the refinishing and unoriginal parts, then balked at the price. Sorry for any confusion on that - wasn’t referring to you. Idk, probably didn’t need to say anything just landed wrong to me in the moment.

Yup, probably just shouldn't have said anything. All I did was repeat what Gary had in his ad (new pickups, wiring, fingerboards, refinish). I ALSO said what a nice guitar it is and wished him good luck with sale. Nowhere did I say he's asking too much $$$, or that it's not worth it. Nowhere is anyone accusing Gary of anything wrong. He's a solid, reputable, long-time SGF guy.

Tempest in a teapot.....like far too much online "communication", IMO.

I’m interested in the bridge covers. Need three for 53 T-8….
But you probably wouldn’t part with those?

Just too nice a steel to do that!

This steel is for someone wanting as close as possible a like new looking 1953 Fender Stringmaster.
