I like 12s too. Been using them for several years.
Best? Depends I guess.
Some good choices old school 80s, 90s Peavey Black Widows 1203, 1201 4 or 8 ohm sound good. Paper cone, big ole Spider Web or Super Structure magnets, either one. 300/350w rating. These are the ones I like and use. Later era Kevlar cones not nearly as sweet for steel.
Eminence built TT12, Telonics, EPS12C all seem to be very popular with steel players. Lightweight neo magnet.
Weber Neomag 12. 75 watter JBLish type tone. I have the 15 in. version of these. Some people say they are too bright, but they sound just fine to me with the right eq. Also neo magnet.
Eminence PF350. 350w Designed with help from and to Paul Franklin specs. Conventional big magnet.
I believe the current issue of Peavey's NV112 uses a Celestion built 12 in. speaker but I don't know if it's available separately. |

Hugh, Mojo tone has a speaker reducer ring to go from a 15" speaker to a 12" speaker for about $30. It's a simple install and no modification to the amp. I have several and they work very nice. _________________ I survived the sixties! |
