Just heard Tony Orlando and Dawn's "He Don't Love You" on the radio, a 1975 remake of Jerry Butler's "He Will Break Your Heart." The vibe is akin to "Nice To Be With You" by Gallery, the year is 1975 so my guess is ... Maestro Paul Franklin?

The playing is so subtle it's hard to get a handle on who it could be. Knowing where it was recorded would be a big help! I would say it wasn't recorded in Nashville, probably LA. I'm thinking maybe Jay Dee Maness or Al Perkins or even Buddy Merrill. _________________ Best lyric in a country song: "...One more, Moon..." |

Took me a while to comb through all the responses (thanks, Kenny!) to my query regarding Tony Orlando and the steel guitar but in the meantime …
Was watching “Yellow Birds” on Netflix and this song “Only Memories” by Bill Morgan came on. Is it Walter Haynes on steel?

Very simple playing, maybe Red Rhodes? |

I'm withdrawing my earlier submissions. After listening again, the tone didn't match any of them. I agree with Donny, and maybe also suggest Sneaky Pete. _________________ Best lyric in a country song: "...One more, Moon..." |

Here's another song with Red Rhodes playing (but not as sparse as the Dawn song, where I hear Joe Osborn on bass also).
