I've always liked the Louis Jordan tune "Choo Choo Ch' Boogie", and my blues band was covering this 9 months ago. After the band broke up, I decided I wanted to attempt it on reso, and began working on it. It took a while to get the speed up and the moves sorted, and in the end, I decided rather than an instrumental, it kind of needed the vocals. But the intro and one solo (verse and chorus) are on reso, and one is on harmonica. And that's pedal steel, on the C6 neck, doing the comping in the background. I don't consider myself much of a singer, but give me credit for trying! The intro and the verse of harp solo are pretty close to Louis Jordan's intro and sax solo on the original. There are some flaws, but I didn't want to do dozens of takes and make the editing complicated looking for perfection - I'm an amateur! So I did only a couple of takes for each part. The bass and drum are a machine - Trio Plus pedal.

Love it!

I'm a big fan of playing Louis Jordan tunes on 6th-tuned lap steels. Blue Light Boogie is one of my old standbys.

Nice one, Douglas. I always loved playing Louis Jordan tunes in the swingy, jump bluesey trio I was in. Fun being the faux horn section. Five Guys Named Moe is a blast to play. Love them rhythm changes.
